Dangling Modifier – the describing words are not properly connected to what they are supposed to describe;
To fix it, rewrite by a) making the (verbing???) beginning match the subject after the comma or b) rewriting the sentence with a dependent clause (using because/since/as/when/while)
Ex. Barking loudly, the girl told her dog to be quiet. (dangling!)
Because he was barking loudly, the girl told her dog to be quiet. (good!)
Barking loudly, the dog was told to be quiet by the girl (also okay!)
Misplaced Modifier – the describing words (only, always, usually, or a phrase) are in the wrong place in the sentence; to fix it, think about what noun it should be modifying, and move it.
example: Only I have 5 dollars for lunch, so I can't buy much. (misplaced!)
I have only 5 dollars for lunch, so I can't buy much. (good!)
Ch 7 2 – 10 Check that the beginnings match the subject
